Background

Having been exposed to the business world since young, I knew I wanted to start investing early. I opened an investment account in Singapore in 2018 and plucked my courage to enter whatever funds I had then... only to have a -40% loss afterwards.

I was emotionally affected naturally, but I was even more determined to make better investments to recoup my losses. After all, the reason for starting early was so that I can learn early, so I must not let these mistakes go to waste.

I learnt that while the stocks I have picked were recession-proof and had a stable business foundation, there was a chance that they will be bought back by the owners when the market is down. I had bought them at a time when the stocks were over-valued and my hopes for holding them were dashed when the owners of 800 Super and Breadtalk both decided to privatise the companies in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
